Keir Starmer: I Helped Declan Rice Get Signed
Arsenal are riding high atop the English Premier League (EPL) table, but one particular football fan feels he had a hand in their recent success due to Declan Rice joining the Gunners.
Sir Keir Starmer, the leader of the Labour Party, recently joked to a British publication on Thursday, 2 May, that he and his son got the talented 25-year-old midfielder to join Arsenal from West Ham United last year.
Starmer, who is a major supporter of the north-London club and regularly attends their matches, joked that at one game, he and his son put the contract for Arsenal underneath a programme for Rice to sign, inadvertently having him ink a whopping £105-million deal.
The transfer changed the fortunes of Mikel Arteta’s team, and since last year, the Gunners have been going from strength to strength, with some saying it may be their best performances in two decades.
Arsenal are currently sitting on 80 points, just one point ahead of Manchester City on the EPL table. With just a handful of games left to play, the possibility of an upset is very real.
